Pop Culture update

Lets see, so far I have started a new blog and got a second job all with in the last week or so. oh wait thats not pop culture, but I am a podcaster....ok...so
according to imdb Transformers 2 will be out on June 26, 2009, in which Unicron will head to earth with the help of Starscream, but will lose in a battle with Galactus who returns in cloud form to....ok everything after the date is not true....yet. Two of my favorite podcasts recently hit milestones (within the last week or so) The Video Game Outsiders did their 100th show and this week dltv did its 200th.

A great site, Popular Distractions, just opened forums. Go check them out, its a fun site and the more members we get, and great opinions and discussion we get going the better the site can become.

Now I will leave you with a band I accidently found and now love their music. Check out this video and see if it hooks you, or at least entertains you for 3 minutes or so.

Blogging in...and Around Comics

How could you not listen to a podcast that came from this.....

"In the Summer of 2005, Chris and Sal, friends and fellow comic book fans, visited a comic book convention. While there, Chris, an avid listener of podcasts, decided to flex his journalistic muscles, and interviewed many comic book professionals, while Sal, a budding alcoholic, got drunk with Paul Jenkins and Ed Brubaker. "
(from the Around Comics Wiki)

Around Comics is a show ....wait...was a show all about comics. Recently Tom, Sal, Chris, Skottie and anyone else who had a vote decided to take the Around Comics podcast and broaden its horizons. The show now has opened up the discussion. There have been times in the past, one time for example that was brought up when a discussion on "Kid Nation" almost broke out, but they held it in to stick to comics. Now the new more open format still is mostly about comics, since thats what the guys love to talk about the most, but they now have time to discuss things like movies, tv shows, and cds. They are even now on thier forums to find a name for a club they are forming. Once a month they will all take a Trade Paper Back, a dvd and a cd, and listen to/watch/read them so at the end of the month they can discuss them. This will hopefully give us all a chance to see what the guys like besides comics.

Around comics is a great show, but it brings me back to what I said when I talked about the 1up Yours podcast, Around Comics can empty your wallet in a hurry if your a comic book fan. I trust these guys almost as much as my friends Dave and Rob when it comes to recommending comics, so when they say you have to read this, I already start thinking about when my next trip to the comic shop will be.

All I have to say is if your a podcast fan, not necessarily a comic book fan, you should check out Around Comics. If your a comic book fan and you haven't yet....you HAVE TO listen to Around Comics. You can to their site or subscribe using their RSS feed.

Morgan Webb keeps you up to date, and give you ANOTHER reason to like dl.tv

My friend Dave and I believe that it would be good to see G4 celebs Morgan Webb and Adam Sessler somewhere besides G4. Dl.tv, one of my favorite tech podcasts has given us an opportunity to do that. Morgan Webb guest hosts episode 199 of the show with Roger Chang. Roger and Robert Heron host dl.tv, a tech podcast that sometimes is way over my head at times when they get deep into somethings like HD Tvs, but in most cases the show is educational and very entertaining. Each episode is streamed live on their site at noon PDT and 3pm Eastern time and can be downloaded in audio and video format. Speaking of that I better go watch Morgan co-host before I talk about how great it was, I mean give my unbiased opinion. BRB

(48:15 later give or take a few minutes for buffering)(episode 199 CLICK HERE)

Hearing and seeing Morgan outside of G4 was really cool. I mean hearing her talk about tech and her new podcast Webb Alert, was fun and interesting. She was able to talk freely and able to say what was on her mind and not be held to just talking about games and act out some of the not usually funny skits they do on X-Play. The few times I have heard Morgan and Adam Sessler outside of G4 (Adam on an E3 special episode of 1up Yours last year.), they were able to show that they are more then just hosts on G4, that they have intelligent opinions and need a way to get them out there. Morgan is using Webb Alert, which is a video podcast available on her site and through itunes. Its a short daily show, in which Morgan discusses the latest news in tech. Its a great way to catch up on whats going on in the world of tech, on and offline, without taking up too much time. She also does fairly detailed show notes that allow you to follow up on the stories if you need more information.

Now we have to give Adam Sessler a push to get his knowledge and opinions out there.
If anyone knows Adam, and yes even you, the guy at the Starbucks near G4's studios that sells him his coffee in the morning, tell him he needs to be out there. There are lots of smart people out there with great opinions, but if they are not heard, no one can enjoy them.

If you have any shows you would like me to listen to or watch, or you have any opinions on the show, leave a comment, or email me at thatsgoodtoknow@gmail.com or cmt2k2@gmail.com.

oh and here is a look at Morgan's latest episode of Webb Alert

1up Yours...beware, listening to this show may cause you to spend lots of money on video games.

Some podcasts I listen to because they are informative, some because they are entertaining. 1up Yours is both. The combination of Garnett Lee, Shane Bettenhausen John Davison and Mark McDonald, keep you entertained and informed with their videogame knowledge and their love for games and game consols.

Each time I listen to 1up Yours it reminds me of a typical conversation I would have with my friends or my cousins about videogames. The show starts like it did this and every week with talk about "what you been playin", which leads to my wallet hurting. John starts off his talk with talk about Mass Effect, Oblivion in space, some people call it. Now even with my second job starting this week, listening to this show makes me wish I had a third. These guys are not just a bunch of people who get paid to play games and talk them up on their podcast and thats it. As lame as this sounds they care about the games they talk about. You can here Shane when he get all excited and turns into PS3 fanboy and talks and talks about the newest game or ap out for the PS3. You can hear it in John's voice when he talks about the newest racer if he loves and when he hates it. And Garnett tells it like it is. He tries to be the guy in the middle but when he has a strong opinion on game or a consol he will let you know about it.

Now this is something I have noticed with alot of podcasts, but that doesn't mean 1up Yours is not special enough that you should give it a shot. So go to 1up.com and check them and the rest of the 1up podcasts.

Bruce Wayne not Batman, Buzz Out Loud confirms

There is one podcast I listen to everyday. That show is Buzz Out Loud, hosted by Tom Merritt, Molly Wood, and producer Jason. BOL has introduced me to Talk Like a Pirate Day, the wonderful world of the RIAA, DRM, Net Neutrality, the Linux Chaser and most recently it has helped shine a light on a lie I had believed since I was old enough to read comic books. Bruce Wayne is NOT Batman. I mean if you listen to the voicemail from listener, JIM JIM, its very clear that there is no possible way Bruce Wayne could be batman. His lifestyle makes it impossible.

Buzz Out Loud is also the place I go to for all of, well ok some of my political news. This past week BOL reported on the website Polical Base started up by form Chief Executive at Cnet, Shelby Bonnie. The idea behind this site is to give you a totally neutral view on polititians. You can find out anything you would want to know about anyone running for or holding public office even where their funding is coming from. It also uses a wiki, which alows users to contribute, but everything must be approved in order to keep things neutral.

Since I never miss an episode of BOL I know this will not be the last post on this show, but I thought it was the best show to start this blog on. So let me leave you with a few bits of BOL knowledge that you should pass on to your friends

1. Be careful when using Reply to All, in most cases its a bad idea.
2. DRM makes things hard, so if you can but itunes plus music or use Amazon to get your music (or any other DRM free service)
3. Anytime you read three Apple stories (good or bad) follow them up with a Linux chaser, it makes them go down much easier
and finally....
4. Start your day with Buzz Out Loud, or your afternoon if you access to the net at work and can listen to the same day its recored you lucky f.....enjoy the show when you can, it will make your day that much better.
